Serve-A-Thon: Help out at Food Recycling Workshop in Kwai Chung (Youth Welcome)
Description: The food waste challenge in Hong Kong is improving with the help of local charities and their volunteers. Each day, approximately 3,600 metric tons of food—equivalent to the weight of 259 double-decker buses—are discarded along the supply chain. At the same time, there are efforts to support disadvantaged groups who may not have sufficient access to food.
Volunteer Roles:
Volunteers will use the collected surplus food from the wet market to prepare nutritious and delicious hot soup or meals for underserved seniors or families. Or volunteers will use the collected surplus food to make useful materials like lip balms and art products.
May 23th: Preparing soup for the underserved seniors or families (using surplurs food collected from wet markets)
Remarks:
Parental guidance is required for child volunteers aged 6-17. This activity welcomes families to sign up. Both the guardian and the children should sign up to this activity online.
All volunteers who attend this activity must be registered with HandsOn Hong Kong. If you wish to have a friend or family member joining you on this activity, they must first register with HandsOn and sign up for the activity.
