Opportunity Details
Reimagine Hong Kong's heritage with traditional paper cutting
Program Description:
The delicate art of Chinese paper cutting, known as Jianzhi, is a centuries-old intangible cultural heritage that embodies patience, precision, and mindfulness. This program invites volunteers to join students with diverse needs in paper-cutting workshops where they transform papers into beautiful art pieces. Volunteers will be paired with students, providing guidance and support as they learn the basic techniques and cultural significance of Jianzhi. Guided by an experienced paper crafter, they will discover the art of using sharp scissors to transform simple sheets of paper into elaborate designs, often depicting auspicious symbols, animals, and scenes from nature. The repetitive motions, attention to detail, and quiet concentration required for meticulous cutting create a meditative experience for crafters to foster a sense of calm and mindfulness as they unleash their creativity in intricate designs.
