Packing & sorting food in Tuen Mun for Hong Kong's most vulnerable
Description: Job losses and financial hardships have led to a notable rise in families seeking assistance from charities for essential food needs. YWAM Tuen Mun actively collects surplus dry and fresh food from a variety of donors, receiving both regular and ad-hoc contributions, including items nearing their shelf life and generous donations from partners.
Volunteers will conduct a thorough quality check and sorting process for these donations in the warehouse. They carefully record and evaluate how the food will be redistributed to partner charities and feeding programs that support at-risk elderly individuals, underprivileged children, and low-income families.
Volunteer roles:
- Volunteers will attend a short briefing at the start of the session and have a clear overview of the food bank and its operations.
- Inventory checking, sorting food, labelling, packing items (eg. rice packing, mask packing etc), cleaning, and preparing for the food assistance programs.
All volunteers who attend this activity must be registered with HandsOn Hong Kong. If you wish to have a friend or family member join you on this activity, they must first register with Hands On and sign up for the activity.
