Phone call support to 1 elderly individual [PRE-TRAINED VOLUNTEERS ONLY]

Each volunteer joining this support-program must have attended our information session before and be available to support ONE elderly individual, by making one phone call each week over a four-week period.
 
First phone calls will be made on Saturday Oct 1st—after then a suitable day and time for calling will be determined between the volunteer and the elderly person they are supporting. Once you signed up for the June 18th session, it means that you're available for the four-week period and our staff will help you sign up for the remaining three sessions (this is important for our tracking purposes).

Description: Many elderly residents in Hong Kong struggle with social isolation, as they become disconnected from their families and communities. Without regular visitors or conversation, the effects of loneliness can be severe for this vulnerable population, including increased risk of anxiety, depression, and cognitive decline. Help from the city's volunteers is needed to provide companionship and support for Hong Kong's isolated elderly residents.


Volunteer roles: Each volunteer will be assigned one elderly individual to call on the phone and check in with once a week. They will provide social connection and emotional support and help their district’s elderly centre to determine their well-being and immediate needs.

All volunteers who attend this activity must be registered with HandsOn Hong Kong. 

每個參加此計劃的義工都必須已出席我們之前舉行的簡介會，並且能在四週的時間內每週致電一位長者一次。

義工將在10月1日（星期六）首次致電長者，然後義工和他們所負責的長者之間確定合適的通話日期和時間。當你報名參與此計劃，即表示你能在四週的時間內每週致電一位長者一次，牽手香港員工會協助你註冊餘下3節服務（牽手香港員工將利用這四節服務追蹤義工的服務時數）。

活動簡介：因應疫情影響，香港大部分長者都擔心或無法外出，唯有留在家中自我隔離以保障健康，因此這些弱勢群體迫切需要義工的幫助，來支援他們的心理健康。社會隔離的影響可能包括焦慮，沮喪甚至認知能力下降。

義工角色：每位義工將獲分配一名長者的聯絡方式，義工需每週致電一次，提供社交聯繫和情感支持，並幫助中心了解他們的健康和迫切需要。

所有參加者須為牽手‧香港會員。
